YouthBuild Quad Cities

Established: 2003
Parent Organization: Rock Island Housing Authority
Executive Director: Rufus Greer Jr.
2011-12 Enrollment: 22
Program Length: 12 months
Recent/Current/Future Projects: Beginning deconstruction/construction of house in Davenport, IA
2011: Exciting times for YouthBuild Quad Cities. After about a year of renovations, the organization and its members recently finished work on their first Iowan house (pictured left), celebrating the occasion with a public viewing on November 4th. In fact, the owner of the house attended the event and said a few words thanking YB Quad Cities for its work. The whole operation was made possible through collaborations between Davenport’s Weed and Seed program, the city of Davenport, Davenport Central High School, and Kimberly Center High School.
The Rock Island program has established itself in Iowa over the last few years; deconstruction and construction of its second home in Illinois’ neighboring state began on October 18th.
